Director Guy Ritchie's (LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS) fourth feature film is about a hard-bitten gambler named Jake Green (played by Ritchie favorite Jason Statham). Green has just spent a lengthy stretch in jail and is seeking revenge on the man who put him behind bars--crime overlord Dorothy Macha (Ray Liotta). Macha's thirst for gambling is his weak spot, and Green exploits it by soundly beating him on a visit to the crime boss's own casino. A hit is subsequently ordered on Green, and he teams up with two tough guys. Avi (Andre Benjamin aka Andre 3000 from Atlanta-based hip-hop outfit Outkast) and Zack (Vincent Pastore) who offer to protect him. Green must give all his money to Avi and Zack, and work for them, if he values his life, so he agrees to the deal despite simultaneously discovering that he suffers from a rare blood disease that will kill him within three days. At this point in the movie Ritchie and writer Luc Besson (who adapted the screenplay from Ritchie's original script) loosen the narrative structure of REVOLVER, deliberately confounding their audience as the film takes a number of oddball twists and turns. The bloodshed and extreme violence of Ritchie's first two films remain, but he takes this movie into unusual territory as Statham's character begins to ponder the meaning of life, scenes are replayed with different consequences, and an assassin (played by Mark Strong) has an existential crisis about his occupation. REVOLVER isn't an easy ride, but it is likely to stir some debate among passionate Ritchie fans as he follows SWEPT AWAY with another unusual addition to his canon.

Revolver: A Thinking Person's Movie
If you love Guy Ritchie movies, Revolver will not disappoint you. I'll admit a certain bias when it comes to Ritchie as a director and Jason Statham as an actor, but I have no qualm in recommending this movie to anyone. It is shot in Guy Ritchie fashion, visually exciting and riveting. The writing does a good job of developing the characters, their relationships with each other and within themselves. The script gives Statham a chance to stretch his acting wings which he rarely gets to do in his all-out action flicks. Specifically, the scene in the elevator, towards the end of the movie is one of the best acted and well shot scenes I have seen over the past 10 years. Not to be outdone, I think Ray Liotta shines in this flick as well. He manages to deliver a performance that while not ... If you love Guy Ritchie movies, Revolver will not disappoint you. Now, I will warn you, that while I am recommending this movie, it is not for average movie goers. The movie examines the higher concept of a man and his place in his world as if a player in game, but with the game always changing. I once heard the quote, "Just when you learn to play the game, I change the rules," and I think it fits this movie. Ritchie has a tale he wants to tell, but he does so expecting the watcher to have a certain level of interest and intelligence. Some people will just not get it while others will think it brilliant. All the pieces are there, but he doesn't think it is his job to put the puzzle together. As such, you the observer are allowed to make your own judgment as to the why something happens and the morality surrounding the decision. Don't get me wrong, this movie has plenty of action and Ritchie has a keen sense of the different types of criminal elements, which he seems to enjoy presenting to us. But, this movie has much more, so much so you will definitely have to watch it at least twice to fully appreciate the story and its visual interpretation. While you might be one of the people who don’t get it, you will have to give Ritchie credit for his originality and putting something out there on a very different level. And for those who love it, especially those in the States who weren't able to see it on the big screen, be sure to share it. - CLR/GVD

Another Guy Ritchie Masterpiece
I purchased this movie because I am a huge Guy Ritchie fan. This movie has been out for nearly a year in England yet it has seen no US release which is why I purchased this Region 2 version. While this is nothing like Snatch or Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels it is still an amazing movie. While you may have to watch it more than once to understand what has happened it is definately worth the time and holds up to multiple viewings. If you like Guy for the way he films movies and writes dialogue (not just for Snatch or Lock, Stock) then you won't want to miss this movie.I purchased this movie because I am a huge Guy Ritchie fan.
