In this case it seems to be something slightly powdery so it *may* be possible to remove with great care (however if in doubt, don't...) In any case a mat could be added to hide the worst of it. The back was removed to take photos, I've now put it back together but it ideally needs backing paper re-adding to seal it. The frame has minor losses to edges.”
