This series was made by the same people who produced Murdoch Mysteries. Doyle and Houdini were friends, but the script writers play 'fast and loose' with actual history. Houdini was long time married when they met and Houdini's brother Dash was involved with his stage acts. I know this is fiction that the two of them(doyle and houndini0 investigated crimes together, but you can't include some of the facts and ignore others. The stories themselves improved as the series progressed, athough unlike Murdoch they characters took themselves far too seriously. Had Fox ordered a second series the writing may have been allowed to improve. Ripper street was by far superior to this and it is a pity as the basic idea has a lot of promise.

I tried hard to engage with the characters but felt that this series, acting and wring were somehow sadly lacking. The earlier episodes were more engaging, and only the very last episode was probably the most believable.4 out of ten overall then, with only three or four really watchable.
